if you're considering a Black Friday offer

Every year I see business coaches talking about Black Friday deals as a 'quick cash injection' strategy,

But that makes it sound so much easier than it actually is.

And I HATE the idea of you spending time and energy you can't really spare on preparing for a launch, posting on stories like crazy even in moments you told yourself you'd be off your phone, and ultimately ending up with two sales.

A thread that runs through my work with mentorship clients:

your business strategy needs to work for YOU.

That includes deciding to sell or not during Black Friday (and HOW to sell) based on how it fits in with your life, your energy, your capacity...

Not based on the idea that it will bring in quick cash.

If you were my client, here’s what we’d talk through before jumping into BF planning...

1. What is your capacity for new clients, and how does that affect what you sell?

Let’s say 10 people say yes. Is that 10 new 1:1 clients you're trying to onboard going into the holidays (which are busy enough with kids)?

Or does it make more sense for your capacity to sell perhaps a lower ticket offer that requires less of your hands on energy? Or does it make sense to take deposits for a later start date?

2. Besides a lower price, why is this the right fit for a potential client?

If someone doesn’t already want the thing, 30% off doesn’t change that. Everyone will have deals for Black Friday- so the price isn't the selling point, but the problem your offer solves, the specific outcomes they'll get from it... that does.

We also need to consider why (besides price) someone would benefit from investing now vs. another time.

3. How can we build momentum without 'something is coming 👀' vibes?

Unless you already have a very engaged audience that buys everything you put out, let's define exactly what you're offering and how to make that clear to your audience ahead of time.

That’s the start of a larger conversation that includes marketing messages and launch planning that aligns with your actual capacity, not the capacity you wish you could commit to.

We also want to make sure we test whether anyone is interested in this offer BEFORE doing a ton of planning plus and how to structure the actual launch so you’re not glued to your phone all Thanksgiving week.

I expand on the above and a few other key considerations to make a Black Friday launch successful when you're working with limited capacity in this week’s podcast episode...

The first month of my son's life, I did A LOT of scrolling. The algorithm very quickly picked up on the fact that I was a new mom, and it started feeding me video after video about baby sleep, latching positions, and what's 'normal' for a newborn. In one 30 minute nursing session, I probably got at least six different pieces of advice thrown at me... and when you're a new mom with no f*cking clue what you're doing, you don't have the self-trust yet to know what is for you and what to ignore....

It can be SO much harder to reposition and revive your business, message, or program than it is to start from scratch. Not because of the actual strategy or tasks needed... but because of the sunk cost fallacy. When you've already put a TON of effort, time or energy into something in your business, letting it go feels like a failure or a waste... even if it's not working. This conversation came up with one of my newer mentorship clients, a hybrid online/in person PT who started her business...

For the first 3-ish months of work after my maternity leave, something felt really off in my business. I had one of my best launches ever right when I came back, riding the tails of my marketing from pre-baby... But once that was over, I felt like I was walking through mud trying to create new content and speak authentically to my old ideal client. I'd just gone through one of the most life changing experiences a human can go through, and for some reason I expected myself to just waltz back...
