most time management advice is f*cking stupid (for mothers)

In 2020, I hired my friend Holly (time management queen👸🏽) to give me a crash course in time management that helped me go from "I just sit down and do stuff until I get distracted" to a color coded, pre-calendared, time blocked work week.

Now, we're both moms living and working on broken sleep, inconsistent childcare and feeling the pull between loving our work but also wanting to be with our babies as much as possible.

I still color code things sometimes in my calendar, but having a perfectly scheduled out, time blocked workweek is a thing of the past.

So much of our work as in motherhood has to happen in the cracks-

Between a call and heading out for daycare pickup.

Maybe 20 mins (if I'm lucky) of independent play before needing Mom again.

On a stroller walk for an overpriced (and much needed) iced coffee.

And when I first came back from maternity leave and was trying to settle back into my business, it didn't feel like that stuff 'counted'.

I missed my full, uninterrupted focus time.

And it's all too easy to lose even more precious time grieving our loss of time.

We end up scrolling, telling ourselves it's for *inspiration*,

or going over and over a to do list in our heads without actually doing any of the things on it.

We finish yet another day feeling behind, angry at ourselves for not being able to magically be the perfect mother, coach and business owner.

(especially because that one woman you follow on IG seems to be able to get it all done AND she also has four children)

None of this is actually a time management problem.

It's a cognitive flexibility problem.

When we're able to think about how we use our time flexibly and adapt our tasks to the capacity we have today...

It's still f*cking hard to find the time to do everything we want to do in our businesses while parenting.

But it becomes a lot easier to use the limited time we do have to move our businesses closer to where we want them to be.

In the newest episode of Building a Coaching Business in Motherhood, you'll hear...

  • how to be more strategic with the limited time you do have
  • the productivity 'hacks' that have saved me in the last few months
  • how I know what's *worth* my time and what to let go of
  • why cognitive flexibility is the missing time management skill for moms

I am honestly so sick of talking about baby sleep so we're not going to do that today ok? (but for the record, I'm exhausted) As silly as it sounds, what's saved me most in the last almost year of motherhood was shifting my mindset around sleep and exhaustion. I used to be very much an 'I need 8 hours of sleep or I am useless' type person. The mindset shift I started practicing as soon as our little dude was pulled into this world (I had a forceps birth) was... 'I can do things even when I'm...

Business coaches on IG will not shut up about sales plans, strategies and funnels. (and they have a point, that sh*t is important, but stay with me) Maybe you've spent hours and hours planning and mapping yours out. Then a client or two leaves and you panic and start posting 'DM me for coaching' even though you weren't planning on launching until next month. Next thing you know, the sales plan you spent so much time on ends up lost somewhere in your Google Drive. That's what I call losing...

(TW: miscarriage) I am not an anxious person, but when I got pregnant with baby L, my anxiety was sky-fucking-high. (I lost a pregnancy in 2024, and I was terrified I'd lose him, too) Most people in my immediate circle didn't really get it. They either didn't have kids, never lost a pregnancy, or thought they were being helpful by trying to make me think positively. I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously... So I searched Reddit, and found post after post, comment after comment, with so...
