(TW: miscarriage)
I am not an anxious person, but when I got pregnant with baby L, my anxiety was sky-fucking-high.
(I lost a pregnancy in 2024, and I was terrified I'd lose him, too)
Most people in my immediate circle didn't really get it.
They either didn't have kids, never lost a pregnancy, or thought they were being helpful by trying to make me think positively.
I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously...
So I searched Reddit, and found post after post, comment after comment, with so many stories of successful pregnancies and births after loss.
It was full of real, honest stories, and I felt understood and hopeful.
(I still use Reddit to this day to search things like 'tips to stop 10 month old nonstop shrieking')
Being misunderstood like that by my immediate circle (even though they had the best intentions) reminded me of the first few years of my coaching business-
People in my life with 'real jobs' thought nutrition coaching sounded like a hobby.
I was making 'real job' money, but I felt like I didn't deserve to take my business seriously... because other people didn't.
When I went online in 2019-2020, I found an entire online coaching industry out there.
It was proof that I wasn't alone, and proof of what was possible.
It felt like permission to take my business more seriously.
No matter what you're dealing with in your business or your life- you are NOT alone.
And I will tell you as someone who has now been in business for over 10 years, pivoted multiple times into different niches, and mentored over 100 coaches in different areas of their client delivery, communication skills and business approach...
You deserve to take yourself and your business seriously, even if you feel like other people don't 'get' what you do.
It might just be that your network needs a shift or an expansion, or you just need to say 'f*ck it', I don't need approval.
Because there are so many people out there with REALLY successful businesses that probably have people in their lives that didn't (and maybe still don't) get what they do.
And in business, you don't need to waste your time trying to prove to someone who will never pay you that what you do is 'real'...
Because the coaching industry is here to stay-
And the difference between a successful coaching business and 'I just coach on the side' is you taking yourself seriously.
(ESPECIALLY if you're a mom who's struggled to feel like your business 'counts' because you run it in the cracks of time you can find in your day)
So if things are feeling a little lonely in your 'real life' because people with 'real jobs' don't fully understand how this sh*t works...
