feeling scattered in your business?

For the first 3-ish months of work after my maternity leave, something felt really off in my business.

I had one of my best launches ever right when I came back, riding the tails of my marketing from pre-baby...

But once that was over, I felt like I was walking through mud trying to create new content and speak authentically to my old ideal client.

I'd just gone through one of the most life changing experiences a human can go through,

and for some reason I expected myself to just waltz back into my business feeling like the exact same coach and mentor I was pre-baby.

When I gave myself the space to re-evaluate what I actually wanted from my business, I realized that I'd been refusing to evolve.

I had been resisting the work that truly called to me because like SO many other coaches,

I was scared that if I niched down and got even more specific about my ideal client, I'd reduce my chances of success.

When in fact it's almost always the opposite.

Messaging and marketing is (unfortunately) a necessary part of running a business.

Running a business on limited time and capacity means specificity is even more important than ever.

In motherhood, I need two things from my marketing and messaging:

  1. I need it to feel authentic and honest to who I am as a mentor/coach
  2. I need my ideal client to be able to self-identify and say 'this is for me'

And when I work with coaches who are feeling scattered, all over the place with their marketing, torn between wanting to take their business seriously and burn it all down...

99% of the time it's that their ideal client is WAY too vague.

Marketing to 'women who are sick of starting over' is NOT the same as marketing to 'women who work in corporate America and start every Monday with a perfectly meal prepped lunch but by Wednesday are back to eating Panera followed by whatever treats they can find in the office kitchen'.

So I recorded you a podcast to help you overcome the fear and/or resistance to niching down.

In this week's Building a Coaching Business in Motherhood episode,

You'll hear:

  • three reasons why niching down will make your marketing so much easier and more effective
  • four questions to ask yourself to speak more clearly to the client you are dying to work with.

Whether you're a mom or not, you don't have time or energy for watered down messaging, so...

Every year I see business coaches talking about Black Friday deals as a 'quick cash injection' strategy, But that makes it sound so much easier than it actually is. And I HATE the idea of you spending time and energy you can't really spare on preparing for a launch, posting on stories like crazy even in moments you told yourself you'd be off your phone, and ultimately ending up with two sales. A thread that runs through my work with mentorship clients: your business strategy needs to work for...

The first month of my son's life, I did A LOT of scrolling. The algorithm very quickly picked up on the fact that I was a new mom, and it started feeding me video after video about baby sleep, latching positions, and what's 'normal' for a newborn. In one 30 minute nursing session, I probably got at least six different pieces of advice thrown at me... and when you're a new mom with no f*cking clue what you're doing, you don't have the self-trust yet to know what is for you and what to ignore....

It can be SO much harder to reposition and revive your business, message, or program than it is to start from scratch. Not because of the actual strategy or tasks needed... but because of the sunk cost fallacy. When you've already put a TON of effort, time or energy into something in your business, letting it go feels like a failure or a waste... even if it's not working. This conversation came up with one of my newer mentorship clients, a hybrid online/in person PT who started her business...
