wtf is business strategy, anyways?

I hired my first business coach in 2019.

She was a little clueless about the fitness industry, but she knew business strategy like a BOSS.

The problem was that she basically tried to bully me into focusing on corporate wellness programs...

even though I shared that I had no desire to get into corporate wellness.

Her strategy was solid-

but it wasn't aligned with my vision for my business.

And I see coaches going two different ways with their strategy-

One, 'post on social media and hope people reach out' vibes mixed with 'tell anyone I talk to that I'm a coach' energy.

Two, 'this business coach that makes a lot of money told me that this is what my strategy should be so I guess I just have to do what they say.'

My old business coach pushed me into a strategy SHE thought was right for me (makes sense considering her background was in corporate)...

But because it wasn't aligned with MY desires, capacity, and talents,

I felt so much resistance towards the things I was 'supposed' to do to make it work.

And my business suffered... because I defaulted to just posting on social media and hoping it worked instead of redefining my strategy.

Now I'm in my motherhood era, running a business that's never felt more aligned or impactful, all on very limited time, energy, and capacity...

My strategy is even more important.

I need my daily, weekly, monthly efforts to clearly be moving me where I want to go.

And that strategy needs to align with my energy, capacity AND motivations...

Not what some business coach is telling me I should do just because it works for them.

You're not 'just a coach'- you're building a coaching business.

And your business could be a f*cking powerhouse if you take it seriously.

But your coaching business will never get to where you want it to go without a strategy that aligns with this season of your life.

Anyway...

this week's Building a Coaching Business in Motherhood episode is part 1 of a discussion we NEED to have around strategy and focus in your business.

This week- strategy simplified and personalized because listening to a lot of business coaches on social media just ends up making strategy seem overwhelming and it doesn't need to be.

Next week- understanding and increasing focus so you can actually carry out that strategy in your day to day, even if you're running on broken sleep or trying to fit work around inconsistent childcare.

talk soon!

I am honestly so sick of talking about baby sleep so we're not going to do that today ok? (but for the record, I'm exhausted) As silly as it sounds, what's saved me most in the last almost year of motherhood was shifting my mindset around sleep and exhaustion. I used to be very much an 'I need 8 hours of sleep or I am useless' type person. The mindset shift I started practicing as soon as our little dude was pulled into this world (I had a forceps birth) was... 'I can do things even when I'm...

Business coaches on IG will not shut up about sales plans, strategies and funnels. (and they have a point, that sh*t is important, but stay with me) Maybe you've spent hours and hours planning and mapping yours out. Then a client or two leaves and you panic and start posting 'DM me for coaching' even though you weren't planning on launching until next month. Next thing you know, the sales plan you spent so much time on ends up lost somewhere in your Google Drive. That's what I call losing...

(TW: miscarriage) I am not an anxious person, but when I got pregnant with baby L, my anxiety was sky-fucking-high. (I lost a pregnancy in 2024, and I was terrified I'd lose him, too) Most people in my immediate circle didn't really get it. They either didn't have kids, never lost a pregnancy, or thought they were being helpful by trying to make me think positively. I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously... So I searched Reddit, and found post after post, comment after comment, with so...
