Anyone else feel the internal battle between wanting to spend as much time with your child as possible while also wanting to prove to yourself and the world that you can be a successful online coach + business owner?
Because me, too.
I truly believe you cannot understand what it feels like to be a mother before it actually happens
(no matter how many other moms you know)
And all the preparations I made for how to *come back* to coaching and mentoring post partum didn’t prepare me for the emotional rollercoaster
As any good online business owner *should*, I planned.
I planned my maternity leave, my interim client support, my return. I planned for how I’d ease back into coaching and mentoring.
The plan technically worked (I had a hugely successful launch less than a month after returning to work)…
but when I started to fully dive back into work, I wasn’t prepared for the shame I’d feel for finding it all so much harder than my plan accounted for.
When you run your coaching business before having babies, even when time is limited you can usually
*make it work*
PuSh tHrOuGh
get back to that one client
follow up on that one DM
throw that post together
But once that child is in your life there are many, many days where you just can’t.
And shame creeps in…
Why can’t I just get sh*t done? Where is this resistance to creating content or selling or even responding to client check ins coming from?
THAT is the roadblock in business, IMO.
Not the exhaustion, or the limited time, or the constantly changing needs of your child.
Not the need for ANOTHER content plan or 73 *free hooks* freebie.
It’s the shame you feel for not living up to an expectation that never aligned with this season of life…
Because even if it’s not your first child… you’ve never lived this season of life before.
And in order to build the coaching business you want for the long term, to serve the clients you love working with, to have the flexibility you started this business for in the first place and to make the money you want…
We need to talk about the shame.
Because it’s NOT just you, and business is NOT just about strategies and tactics… the mindset stuff (as annoying as it is) really matters.
Working through the beliefs, stories and emotions that come up through the process of building the coaching business you want in motherhood is ALWAYS a part of the work we do in mentorship.
Just yesterday, one of my mentorship calls with a coach revolved around the fear of rejection and how it had been holding her back from taking leads to clients.
We identified that last week when she was able to identify and talk through the stories with me via our private chat, she ended up signing THREE new clients for her app.
But without working through our stories and emotions, we stay stuck trying to follow through on things that our mind tells us we can’t or we're not good enough for..
and that’s not true.
If you’d like to chat in the DMs about mentorship and how I help moms (and moms to be) develop a business that aligns with this season of life, message me ‘HI’ and I’ll start the conversation.
(I also am thisclose to finishing a Google doc that breaks down what you’ll get out of mentorship, pricing, what’s included, etc if you’d like to check that out!)
And for more on the shame that holds us back as coaches and mothers, listen to the most recent Building a Coaching Business in Motherhood episode-
there are four more big ones that come up with the moms I work with.
